At Home with The Golden Buns (@thegoldenbuns_)

1. Tell us about your pets. What are their names, species, and ages?

We live with two exceptionally sweet buns, Cheese and Puff, a brother‑and‑sister duo who were rescued by the wonderful Hoppy Acre Animal Sanctuary. They turned 3 on June 14th, but they proudly claim their human‑years age of 33, technically making them slightly older than me and my husband.

Online they go by The Golden Buns (@thegoldenbuns_) on Instagram and TikTok. Between snack breaks and dramatic flops, they’ve been on an important mission online to fundraise and raise awareness for Hoppy Acre, hoping to help the sanctuary rescue even more little lives.

2. Any personality quirks we should know about?

Puff is the undisputed princess of the household. She’s overflowing with personality and must personally supervise everything. Her signature move is her iconic side‑eye, a look so powerful it could convince anyone she’s owed treats immediately, no questions asked.

Cheese, meanwhile, is the family socialite, the extrovert of the home. He’s full of beans, always ready to zoom, and he adores playing with all his toys. His greatest love? The giant willow ball. It’s his pride and joy.

Together, Cheese and Puff have formally claimed not just our hearts, but also our sofa as theirs. It is their beloved chill‑out zone where humans may sit only with permission and treats.

4. What does an ideal afternoon with your pets look like?

My ideal afternoon consists of me, the buns, and a dangerously full online shopping basket of rabbit toys, hay and treats. Puff especially loves to help, she sits beside me like a tiny floofie consultant, ready to inspect (and judge).

Me and my husband also love lying down on the floor with them, they flop beside us and give little nose nudges, turning the whole room into the calmest, cosiest little haven.

While they’re busy digging dramatic holes in their cardboard box or flinging their toys around, I love settling down with some painting. Naturally, Cheese and Puff are my muses, though I’m not entirely convinced they’ve formally agreed to this role.

5. What is your best hack for enrichment, feeding, or general care that more owners should know about?

Cheese & Puff are absolutely obsessed with the Little Hay Co cardboard box their hay arrives in. To them, it’s not packaging, it’s prime real estate. They’ve turned it into their top‑secret hideout and spend their days doing both interior and exterior design work. Think: open‑plan nibbling, rustic ventilation holes, and multiple tunnel entrances.

Their latest renovation masterpiece? A proclamation of their love for The Little Hay Co, a perfectly nibbled heart carved right into the box. Honestly, if that isn’t true love, I’m not sure what is.

We also love making DIY enrichment for them, like stuffing hay into kitchen rolls to make hay burritos and we forage for willow twigs to twist into new chewable structures. We’ve recently posted a DIY cardboard garden enrichment tutorial on our Instagram and TikTok pages. Our home is basically a full time arts and crafts department, and the buns are the very enthusiastic (and slightly destructive) quality control team.

6. Hay: Timothy, Cotswold Sweet, Timothy Blend, or something else entirely?

Their favourite hay is the Meadow Hay & Timothy blend from The Little Hay Co. Cheese and Puff consider themselves hay connoisseurs, they only dine and lay on the finest of hay.

Despite what the internet claims about rabbits being “unable to smile,” Puff has single‑handedly debunked that myth. She’s been caught smiling in her litter tray amongst a fresh heap of her favourite Little Hay Co hay.
